The Slovak Chips Competence Centre has signed a significant Memorandum of Cooperation with the Bratislava Self-Governing Region (BSK), aimed at strengthening the development of the semiconductor ecosystem, educating specialists, and supporting an innovative environment in the region.
This strategic document establishes a framework for long-term and systematic cooperation, with a strong focus on education, talent development, innovation activities, and enhancing the region’s attractiveness for high-tech investments. The memorandum reflects a shared vision of building a competitive Slovak and European semiconductor industry.
In the field of education, the cooperation will primarily focus on introducing modern semiconductor-related topics into secondary school curricula, training teachers, and creating new study modules that respond to labour market needs. The goal is systematic work with students, talent support, and the development of a skilled workforce in order to retain young talents in the region.
The cooperation will also concentrate on innovation, support for start-ups as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, and on creating an overall favourable environment for investment in the high-tech sector.
“Signing the memorandum with the Bratislava Self-Governing Region is a key step towards the systematic development of semiconductor talent in Slovakia. We are connecting education, research, and industry so that young people gain practical skills and prospects for employment at home. Strong regional cooperation is the foundation of a competitive chip ecosystem and long-term technological resilience for Slovakia and Europe,” said Michal Mičjan, Director of the Slovak Chips Competence Centre.
“Semiconductors are the backbone of the modern economy, and without investment in education and talent in this field, we will not be able to remain competitive internationally in the long term. By signing this memorandum, we are sending a clear signal that the Bratislava Region wants to be an active player in the development of high-tech sectors with high added value and to create conditions for quality jobs at home rather than abroad. At the same time, this represents a strategic anchoring of the semiconductor agenda in the Bratislava Region and a strengthening of the link between regional education and the real needs of industry. We want semiconductor topics to become a more integral part of secondary education. This includes new study modules and pilot programmes, teacher training and internships, as well as systematic work with students and talents,” said Juraj Droba, Chairman of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region.
