On Tuesday, 10 February 2026, the first edition of Chips Day took place at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (FEI STU). The event focused on promoting electronics, semiconductors, and chip technologies among secondary school and grammar school students.

The event attracted students from Secondary Technical School of Electrical Engineering, Hálova 16, Secondary Technical School of Electrical Engineering, Zochova 9, Secondary Technical School of Electrical Engineering Karol Adler, and Hubeného Grammar School. Throughout the day, the programme featured expert lectures, themed exhibition booths with technology demonstrations, a technology quiz, and discussions with representatives of the university and industry. Students actively participated, asked questions, and discussed study opportunities as well as future careers in electronics and semiconductors.

Chips Day was created in cooperation between the Institute of Electronics and Photonics at FEI STU, the Slovak Chips Competence Centre, and industry partners. Companies and institutions presenting their technologies and expertise included Semikron Danfoss Slovakia, onsemi Slovakia, Diodes Incorporated, Schaeffler, Foxconn Slovakia, the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (CVTI SR). Participants had the opportunity to see real-world applications of semiconductor technologies and discuss them directly with industry experts.

The closing part of the event featured a popular science lecture by Samuel Kováčik (Vedátor), who introduced the microscopic world and showed that phenomena at the atomic level can be both understandable and highly fascinating.

The goal of the event was to connect secondary schools, the university, research, and industry, and to introduce students to opportunities for further study and professional careers in chips and semiconductor technologies. The interest and active engagement of participants confirmed that initiatives of this kind have significant potential in building Slovakia’s technological ecosystem.

The successful first edition provides a strong foundation for continuing the event in the coming years.
